Beyond conventional CGO
Higher induction, lower loss
Hi-B (high magnetic induction) grain-oriented steel is rolled and annealed to a sharper Goss texture than conventional grain-oriented (CGO) steel, so more grains align with the rolling direction. That raises induction and drops hysteresis loss. Laser scribing then attacks the remaining eddy-current component by refining the magnetic domains.

Domain refinement
How laser scribing cuts core loss
A focused laser scans fine lines across the rolling direction, introducing localised thermal stress that narrows the 180° magnetic domain walls. Narrower domains switch with less eddy-current loss, so P1.7/50 drops a further 8–15% over the same Hi-B substrate.

Hi-B & laser-scribed CRGO, explained
What is Hi-B silicon steel?
Hi-B stands for high magnetic induction. It is grain-oriented steel processed to a sharper Goss texture than conventional CGO, so more grains align with the rolling direction. That lifts induction to B8 ≥ 1.88–1.90 T and lowers core loss, letting cores run cooler or use less material.
What does laser scribing do to the steel?
A laser scribes fine lines across the rolling direction, adding localised stress that narrows the magnetic domains. Narrower domains switch with less eddy-current loss, cutting P1.7/50 a further 8–15% over the same Hi-B substrate — this is called domain refinement.
Is laser-scribed steel suitable for wound cores?
Not directly. Stress-relief annealing (SRA), which wound cores need, erases the laser-scribing benefit. Laser-scribed material is best for stamped and stacked cores. For SRA’d wound cores we supply heat-proof (etched or mechanically scribed) domain-refined grades — tell us your core type and we’ll spec accordingly.
Which grades and equivalents can you match?

What thicknesses are available?
Primarily 0.23 and 0.27 mm for Hi-B and laser-scribed grades. For thinner high-frequency gauges down to 0.10 mm, see ultra-thin CRGO.
Do the datasheet values come guaranteed?
The table shows typical grade targets. Every order ships with a mill test certificate reporting measured core loss and B8 for the actual coils, produced under ISO 9001 and IATF 16949.
Can I get samples before ordering?
