Electrical Steel Grades — GB / EN / JIS / AISI Cross-Reference
Full grade list for grain-oriented and non-oriented silicon steel across the Chinese GB, Japanese JIS, European EN and North American AISI standards, with equivalents. Looking for a specific manufacturer’s brand code instead? Use the equivalents chart.
Two grade families
Start with structure, then match your standard
Grain-oriented and non-oriented grades don’t cross over — pick your product line first, then find your grade in the matching table below.
Grain-oriented · CRGO
Grain-Oriented (CRGO)
For transformer and reactor cores where flux runs along one axis.
Non-Oriented (CRNGO)
For motors and generators where the field rotates through 360°.
Reading a GB grade code
What the letters and digits mean
GB/T 2521 codes encode real properties, so you can sanity-check a spec sheet without opening a datasheet.
Thickness
Leading digits = thickness in mm × 100. “27” → 0.27 mm.
Q or W prefix
Q = grain-oriented, W = non-oriented (rolled the same in every direction).
Loss digits
Trailing digits = maximum core loss (W/kg) × 100, at the standard’s reference frequency.
Hi-B marker “G”
A “G” after Q (e.g. QG) marks a high-permeability, laser-scribed Hi-B grade.

High-strength EV grades such as 20SW1200H currently have no stable cross-standard equivalent published — send us the property targets and we’ll confirm feasibility directly. Need a match by manufacturer brand code (Baosteel, Nippon Steel, ThyssenKrupp, Posco…) instead? Use the grade equivalents chart →
FAQ
Choosing and matching a grade
How do I convert my spec’s grade code to yours?
Tell us the standard and code you have — GB, JIS, EN or AISI — and we’ll match it to our production grades or confirm the nearest equivalent.
Are the AISI equivalents on this page exact?
They’re approximate matches by core-loss class, not lab-confirmed against every property on a specific mill’s datasheet. Always confirm against a datasheet, or send your exact spec, before ordering.
What if my grade isn’t listed here?
This table covers our standard catalog. Some grades — including high-strength EV grades like 20SW1200H — don’t have a stable published cross-standard equivalent; send us the property targets directly and we’ll confirm feasibility.
Do you have individual pages for every grade?
Not yet for every grade — dedicated pages are being published for the highest-demand grades first. This table and the equivalents chart cover the full range in the meantime.
Which table do I use if I only know a competitor’s brand code?
Use the grade equivalents chart — it cross-references by manufacturer brand code (Baosteel, Nippon Steel, JFE, ThyssenKrupp, Posco and others) rather than by standard designation.
Why buyers trust our grade data
Tested and certified, not just quoted
Every coil ships with a mill test certificate confirming the actual core loss and induction measured for that batch.
Not sure which grade matches your spec?
Send your standard and grade code, or the properties you need, and we’ll confirm the match within 24 hours.
